My advice to the OP is to not mention to anybody why you left your work if you can at all help it. At least not to talk in terms of bad timekeeping and insomnia as per the original post. If the nosey parkers demand an answer, then have a readymade answer for them such as "to help partner in his/her work", "do more DIY work around the house", "look after a relative" etc. I am not suggesting that you lie. There should be a grain of truth about the reason that you give.
  • Sacked for sickness or resigned as a reason for leaving - I think you made the right choice to resign - much easier to explain. Mistral001 is correct that you should have a good reason to explain to future employers why you left because you will be questioned in interviews.

The sickness issue with this employer should not be in your reference so you do not need to tell future employers/worry too much about this.

However you do need to sort out the issue that you have with sleep/lateness. I have worked in the past with people who have issues getting into work on time (depression/medication/ADD) and changing working times - potentially working shorter days usually works. Some people just cannot get to work by X and it needs to be Y. So perhaps shift work in your next job could help?

Any chance it could be seasonal (SAD) is it worse in the winter? - talk to your Doctor. Good luck.
