New to submitting tax returns

Hi everyone

I need to submit some tax returns on behalf of my dad who has passed away....i've just discovered that my mother has not done this although she had said she was dealing with the situation.

The question I have is how easy is it to do? I've never been self employed and never done anything like this - but I can cope with most things once i've learned.

What would be the reason to do it ourselves or to get dad's old accountant to finish things off? How costly is it to use an accountant in this situation?

thoughts? thanks!! :)

Are these to do with matters that the accountant formerly dealt with?

It should not be any different to the price charged for a "box standard" tax return for someone still living as the information required is essentially the same.

  • Thanks guys

I'm going to call the accountant when i get back from work....what would be an approximate standard price? Just want to be forewarned, lol.

I want to make things as easy as possible but don't wish to pay for anything that's unnecessary..

    thanks :)
  • That's a bit 'how long is a piece of string' I'm afraid.

We have sole traders paying between £225+VAT to nearly £1000 depending on the size/complexity of their business, whether they just want figures for the tax return or accounts to manage their business, and exactly how much of the work they do themselves.

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.
