Help some poor midwives!!

As some of you may know in October 2004 Agenda for Change was introduced by the Government for NHS workers. This involved a complete new pay structure banding for all NHS workers. We at an unnamed Trust have up to now been assimilated in October 2006, but, rec'd absolutely no money which is to be back dated until Dec 2004. Despite letters saying we will be getting our back pay and numerous calls to our wages dept we are none the wiser when we will get paid. All of us are absolutely sick to death of waiting 2 and a half years running for our money. We are aware of some midwives at another trust successfully claiming their money and stat interest through the small claims online. Could someone advise, we are sick of being told it will be this month and when payday comes - nothing!!
HELP PLEASE

twinstwins is your Union Rep not keeping you informed as to the state of play as regards your back pay? Seek him or her out and demand (stamp ur feet if you have to)to know whats going on.....

  • Hi twinstwins. Agenda for Change is a very complex issue and it's not easy to find the funds for the payouts. You know you are going to be paid out just not when. It is no good you being paid out and then being paid off because the NHS is no longer able to keep you on because of lack of finance. Look at it as money in the bank which if the Unions hadn't fought for you would probably have known nothing about and would be no better off. Patience as they say is a virtue but by all means ask your rep to keep you fully informed, as he/she is the person who will know in your particular circumstance not anonymous people on this forum. There is no need to "demand" anything of your rep just ask, and there is certainly no need to "(stamp ur feet)" treat people with respect and they will give you the info you need.

Shazmar your dealings with Union Reps have been very different to mine , if a gentle prod was all that was needed... not all reps are as diligent in forwarding information and indeed I have found over the years that some of them are just in it for an easy ride and going 'over their heads' has been the only way to get the information required... that said many people do not realise the work that goes on behind the scenes when something like Agenda for Change is being worked on...

  • Tanith your experience with reps is no reason to tar them all with the same brush. That said I would be interested to know if the midwives have actually approached and discussed the matter with their rep.

Shazmar I by no means tar them all with the same brush but would it not be for the rep to update their local members with events and it seems that this particular rep was not doing that....

I did say that "not all reps are as diligent" meaning of course that some reps are excellent in the way they forward info....

I too would like to know if the rep has been approached....
