Webcam interviews?

Not for me but someone I know has just been given an interview at a very big company for a very competitive position. They want him to do a webcam video of him answering the questions and send it off to them.
Sounded odd to me and was just wondering if this is a new fad in recruitment? Not sure how they can get useful information out of it!

Going for a cam girl job are they?
Never heard of it personally, have used video conferencing for interviews with people that are overseas to save them traveling here but never considered having a prefilmed video.0 -

Skype interviews for jobs abroad yes but taped video no.
Is the job abroad? It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0 -
No it's not aboard. He's spoken to some others in the industry and apparently it's something this company just does. Apparently if this goes well he'll be invited to one of those group problem solving days and a live interview. The hoops people jump through for jobs.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0
