data protection!!!

Hi All
can anyone help with my problem....
I've a son who's now 17 and he's [supposedly] in college eduction - some form of building college
it's sad to say, but I rarely speak to him and his mother now detests me [and that's putting it mildly]
I pay CSA [under the old rules system, but I don't think that matters]
I called the CSA to enquire about my CSA payments and asked it they could enlighten me whether or not the further eduction my son is talking qualifies - should I be paying CSA or not, she took a few minutes then came back with the news that it was, this information was relayed to them via the child benefit office. No further information could be given due to the "data protection act"
I then contacted the college - I said who I was, my son's name - could provide ID, Birth Certificates etc. same again, data protection act
I finally called the Child Benefit office, you guessed it - DPA!!!
can anyone tell me where can I go from here? - nobody in the 3 parties above will even acknowledge my valid questions, but they'll be on the phone if I was 1 second late with my payment!
Thanks, Paul

hi Paul, the basic building course is an NC which is not classed as higher education, usually to progress to higher education in construction you need to be working in the industry. It sounds like mum is still in receipt of child benefit and that your son is in non advanced eduction but of course nobody is going to tell you that, just as they would not even tell you the address of the child you are supporting.0

so if he's NOT in higher eductaion, then CSA payments are null and void?
but like I'd said - how the heck do I prove it?0 -
CSA is still payable as is Child Benefit0

A child remains a qualifying child until he/she leaves full time non-advanced education, OR until he/she has their 19th birthday. CMEC legislation is set to increase the age of a qualifying child to 20 years, providing that child is still in full time further education.
There is a termination date applicable from the date the child leaves education. The termination date can be a few weeks after the child has left school0 -
Does anyone know when the rules changed re further education? My daughter went into further education when she was 17 in 2009 and fell off the CSA radar..... thanks0
