How do you get off paying your TV licence if your FIL is in a nursing home ? And surely 3 hours cleaning in a month can't make that much difference ? I agree too that it's good that you're looking at your budget but that you're sticking your head in the sand at the moment. Best to do what you can now before you're forced into it. You've missed out quite a lot of expenses so feel that your outgoings might be quite a bit higher than you realise. Have another look at the figures.0

Yes, the £36 is for contact lenses, I have to have daily acuvue lenses. I've tried cheaper ones but they dried my eyes out too much, and I've got an astigmatism in my left eye so I need a toric lens. Yes it's another excuse but I have tried it.
A lot of my bills are fixed or under contract until August so I'll definitely use comparison sites to get the best deal.
I should get the kids to help with the cleaning, there's no excuse there!
Just by doing my SOA I can see where I need to make changes, and I'm really grateful for the advice!0 -
Thanks sb612 for not taking offence, none was intended, I think you have given your self a reality check by writing it all down.
check the TV licence - fines are bigger than the cost of the licence, apart from getting your name in the paper.
If father in law is in a nursing home, you are definitly not entitled to a free one, sorry.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I'd strongly recommend prepayment meters for your electric and gas. Those dual fuel bills are not astronomical, but you could definitely bring that down, either get on an online saver tariff for DD or prepayment meters for sure.
This is my area of expertise0 -
I agree- employ the kids to do the cleaning and pay in dance lessons or whatever!

Yep - I wondered if astigmatism might be the case - lenses are a lot more expensive. The only way to get it a bit cheaper is if you get the optical prescription and buy the toric lenses over the internet. You can probably save about £5-£10 month but you have to shop around...0
