PPI Help

Hye i'm after some advice. I recently purchased a car on finance and took the PPI cover, my initial thoughts being because i have an existing loan of 250 ish as well as the car payments of 202, however afetr reading up on various different bits, i'm now massively confused as to how this would help in the long run. I live with my parents currently so don't have a mortgage. If I lost my job would the PPI cover me for the car finance? or would i still potentially need to give the car back and it would cover the difference?
Sorry if this sounds a bit thick, just not too sure if i've signed into this with a confused view?
Thanks,

Katie
