Career Loan - Cancelling

Hi All,

My boyfriend was given a loan by a training company to pay for a course, however after only 2 sessions he left because it wasn't what he expected and the instructors were unhelpful. He's been told he still needs to pay the full amount, which is payable over 36 months.
I'm writing a letter on his behalf which offers the return of all course material and his uniform, and to ask if its possible to only pay back a certain percent.
Is there any advice that anyone could give on what I could say to aid my case?

Thanks

Honestly, save your time and ink. He agreed to a loan term and made the choice not to continue the course - it simply won't happen.

I am not sure you have a case, Your boyfriend left of his own free will and the place would have been open for him should he have wanted to return so why should he get to make a part payment ?

It might have been better had he stuck with it and complained about the training and staff rather then just giving up.

I am sure he signed a contract when starting out so what does that say about repaying a course you left early ?
I can understand if he left because someone he had to care for got sick or there was something else major but I doubt any contract would cover him cancelling because after 2 lessons he thought it wasn't worth doing.

There are loads of posts about Barclays Partner Finance.

Typically a naff, incompetant training company promise the World and charge a premium for this fantastic course which garantees a £60k income on completion

Nobody can afford the £10k to start the course so they use an alternative lender (e.g Barclays).
The Applicant signs up both for the course and the finance.

Barclays pay the training company the £10k and the student then repays the loan to Barclays.

The Students realise it is a complete waste of time and demand a refund.

The Finance Company don't give a hoot, they have already paid the £10k on behalf of the student so want their money back in accordance with the finance ageement.

The Training Company don't give a hoot, the student left of his own free will, the course is still open if he wants it.

End Result - You are on your own.

Alarm bells should ring when any training company promise something at the end. If all the Students pass, they would have to live up to those claims.
The day you sign up, it is in their BEST Interest to make sure everyone either fails and gets chucked off, or bails out of the course of their own free will.
  • Thanks everyone, I told him at the time not to sign up for anything he couldn't commit to! At least I can say I told you so! :)

This culture of " i signed up and dont like it later " has to stop. It breeds irresponsibilty.

If the course was for a Flange Shanker he should've continued as they are in great demand at the moment.
