The Work of a Traffic Warden.

Anyone got any thoughts on being a TF or has anyone? Do you think you get alot of abuse? Could you do it? Would it bother you when the law is on your side?

  • You do get abuse. I have seen a man I went to school with who is a traffic warden who has had more than one black eye. Conversely, a friends father hasn't in the decades he's been doing it - they have completely different misdemeanours with old school friend being quite meek.

The law may be on your side but it doesn't stop you getting a face full of abuse or a good kicking - it merely means you can report it to the Police and will probably, but not guarateed, end up with the perpetrator in court.
  • My mate did it and got very little abuse at all....I guess it depends on where you would be patrolling!
The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!

  • I think where you do it makes a huge difference, and your approach.

We have a couple of t.fs who patrol the rather small town centre where I work. There's no parking on the main street where all the banks etc are, just double yellows or a loading bay, and they do ticket quite a lot of people here, but they always give them 5 minutes to rush back first! And if someone is in the car they just ask them to move. So they don't seem to get much grief, a bit of arguing sometimes, but I've never seen real abuse. People getting tickets round here are parked where they really obviously shouldn't be. I reckon I could stomach doing that.

I guess if you work for a private company where you have targets to meet so you ticket anything immediately for any tiny point, you are more likely to get trouble.

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.

There are some prime examples and input from former and currently employed people over on the parking board. Maybe ask there?
