Using Linkedin for Job Hunting?
Comments
-
I landed my current role after being approached on Linkedin, the company didnt advertise for the role at all, they just searched for people with the appropriate skills and experience and approached them direct.
Since then I have had numerous job offers, and approaches which have led to additional business for my current role.0 -
I've matched up several people to roles I knew of using Linked In. As one of the previous posters said, you have to engage in it. I don't see it as effective as a jobs board - it's about links and contacts. Some suggestions:
1. Your profile is the sales tool - just like a CV. Make sure it is as focused as possible, reinforcing your strengths. Many people make the mistake of making their profile too generic - mostly employers are looking for specific skill sets - project management, sage knowledge, .NET programming, proven sales skills.
2. Ask for several recommendations, and suggest your referees emphasise your key skills
3. Link up to as many people as you can - very few turn down a request to link
4. Amend your profile, make comments, etc every few weeks - this makes sure your profile appears on time lines
5.Comment on news relevant to your sector - this opens up your profile to a wider network and will introduce new contacts.
6. Use Linked In for researching potential employers - who do they employ, how long do they stay with the firm, what did they do before, where did they go next
Best of luck!0 -
Do you work for them?
Hi, no not as such, I just kind of help out now and then by giving it a mention when appropriate. I know the people who created it though and its not paid work but built out of wanting to provide a truly free place to network, promote and so on. That's why I don't mind helping out.0
