Withdrawn job offer

I work for a large organisation on a flexible contract. I recently attended 2 open interviews and was offered postitions in departments that I was not interested in, therefore I declined the posts. I was then approached by my manager and asked if I would take a permanent contract on the department where I work (flexi). I accepted this offer. However, I have since had the offer withdrawn as HR have highlighted that I have declined 2 positions recently. In addition to this I have been told that the organisation will no longer accept any job applications from me for a period of 12 months. I feel that this is discrimination? Any advice appreciated

Not really discrimination is it? Just a policy to rule out timewasters. Sorry.0

isn't discrimination - just life. relax and await the next opportunity. it probably won't be too long in coming.:)0

Thanks for reply. I always thought an interview was a two way process. There could be many reasons why a person declines a job offer. I am not a time waster. surely to accept a job and not stay in post for any length of time would be more of a waste? Not sure that employers actions are written down in any policy. Employment solicitor thinks that this action is potentially harming my career and future earning potential. Employer needs to be able to prove that they have and will treat others in the same way or it can be seen as discrimination0

employment solicitor is right that it may harm your career but talking out of !!!! if they are saying you have a discrimination case unless discrimination on grounds of a protected characteristic.
Not all discrimination is illegal. I'm with your employer, check out what jobs are like BEFORE you apply for them, it's a pain in the butt reading CVs and getting an interview panel together.Debt free 4th April 2007.

So you applied for two jobs, the company said ok and then you refused them?
Or did they say 'Did you want this job?' and you said no thank you?
As above, it maybe discriminatory but you can only do something about it if its down to a protected charateristic. The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

~Sorry but is that a real solicitor? Are you suggesting the reason they have really done this is because of your race/age/gender/disability etc? There are the only things that can possibly be seen as illegal discrimination. Just not wanting to accept further applications from you because you are a serial time-waster (from their point of view) is not. In any case, all they need to do is to say, yes, if we have anyone else who turns down two job offers with us within a period of X months then we'll not accept further applications from them for X months either. Therefore treating everyone equally.Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.0 -
The job advert was for various posts and various hours. I did discuss with HR where posts were and I highlighted the areas I was interested in on the application form. I was subsequently offered posts in areas I had no interest in. As for time wasting, I am not in the habit of spending my free time travelling to interviews with the intention of turning down posts. Neither do I want to take up a position that I know is not suitable. HR were aware that I had turned down both posts when they sanctioned the offer of the post that has since been withdrawn. Maybe not discrimination as such but detriment short of dismissal. Surely it can't be right to say that in future they will do the same should someone else refuse 2 jobs? policies should not be written to suit future events just to justify an employers past action.0

Which is not something you can action in court.
Question; why are you asking here if you already have a hot shot solicitor on the case? They will have more detail than us.Debt free 4th April 2007.

If you ask enough people, then surely one will respond with the answer you want. The Brett Effect.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
