Personal Advisors...How Often?

  • This all very much depends on the policy of the local district. It is also at the discretion of the personal advisor. In theory they can call you in every day if they wanted to.

I was told the advisors are not there to help you find a job just to make sure that you look for work!!!

This is right. As far as I'm aware the mian purpose of the assistant advisor (not the personal advisor) is to ensure that you have met the conditions to claim jobseekers allowance. If so they put the "470 through" on the system (known as jsaps) which triggers your payment.

for many people the act of signing on is to declare you are searching for work, often based on very minimal requirements.

If you demonstrate you are doing well over and above this, then that is that part of the process fulfilled. Unless you are on minimum wage, the vast majority of jobs advertised at the JC are not relevant, and almost exclusively the JC staff are not qualified to read and interpret job descriptions anyway. So it is a matter of following the process, but will never be there to actually help you in to a job as it were.
