Chip and Signature DEBIT CARDS

Hi, Just curious and wondering if anyone knows the rules to the Chip and Sign cards, as featured on watchdog on tuesday

I would rather have one, but I have a feeling the branch will say no

Is there any criteria you have to meet?

Can the bank refuse it?

Thanks

Didn't watchdog say that technically banks can refuse everyone but the blind a signature and pin card? I seem to remember them saying something like that so I guess it'll be interesting to see the banks stance on this now watchdog have highlighted it.

I phoned them this morning, they said that I CAN have one if i tell them WHY!!!

I said I do not feel I can remember a pin number other than my date of birth which is on my driving licence, also that I am dyslexic. They said that the Debit card team will issue me one on monday and it will take 5-7 days to come through... lets see :-D

I will watch the episode of watchdog again in a minute because it is on my "On Demand" on Virgin Media and get back to you on what exactly they said

    From Watchdog:

    Chip and Signature cards:

Can not be used in ATM's

Covered by Banking Code more than C+P

Some banks may refuse unless you have "Certain Disabilities"

You are perfectly within your rights to ask for one

I am guessing it means you can "ASK" for one but they DONT HAVE TO give you one...

It's not a matter of the bank saying no, it's a matter of you using something you feel safe using. Don't ask, tell them you need a Chip & Signature Card.

You'll probably find your present card issuer very accomodating. I was thinking of switching, still am. Lloyds TSB - no problem. Alliance & Leicester, in branch (Middlesborough) they'd never heard of Chip & Signature and I couldn't get one. Following day, called their Liverpool call centre - no problem, the call centre operative even gave his name to use in the application process.

Maybe others would like to reflect their experiences of acquiring Chip & Signature Cards?r
