I wish I had seen this earlier. I don't call them Wonga I call them Wanka for very obvious reasons. The poster who talked about trust rating may well have been from Wanka themselves.
With Santander all I had to do was cancel my debit card, that stopped em taking any money. You can also send both Wanka and the bank a letter removing continuous payment authority. Hate to say it but there is a thread on CAG.
depending on what your credit rating was like I would have been tempted to repay as per your plan (if it was good) but if like mine it is shot to S**t then go for the repayment plan. They will huff and puff and try to slap stupid charges on...thats why they won't let you set up an arrangement before you miss a payment (extra charges). So you owe £1200 , I assume that is including interest...pay them off but not a penny more. Pay them by standing order NOT by debit card. When you have paid them 1200 stop. They will huff and puff again and threaten you with all sorts, but very doubtful they will take you court and if they do you can defend (unreasonable T&C's and charges) . Make sure you keep a copy of all letters /emails. Nothing by phone, if they call just put the phone down or refuse to answer security.Hope that helps.

Thanks a lot for your help. I've cancelled my card as a precaution, and tomorrow I might transfer £10 or so into the old account, to see if they're able to take it.

My plan is to email them every day, reiterating what I'm saying, and expressing that I want to talk via email only. Luckily, the only work number they have for me is my direct line, but I don't want to deal with this at work.

I already feel such huge relief at not panicking at the end of the month incase this month they decided against lending to me. If anyone reading this is thinking about taking out a payday loan, PLEASE don't. It's so not worth it.

I was emailing them every day to a couple of email addresses, I used nice different coloured sizes and fonts . Probably !!!!ed them off but made me feel better. Bit of a pain first time but after that just copy n paste from your sent folder. You need to be strong as they will try to treat you like dirt . It is a massive weight off your shoulders when you finally take control.

I have just seen the light with wonga too, and to be fair they were really helpful! Shock, horror! I made sure that there was no money in my account for them to take on the day, and cancelled my card so they couldn`t take any. Then after a couple of e-mails and a phone call I had an arrangement in place to pay off the loan at a reasonable amount for me each month.

a number of points, I had to be in default for this to happen but now that the arrangement is in place they have frozen all the interest.

I also made a point of saying that it was my mess and I had taken out the loan so I wanted to pay it back.

I did this without using a debt management company as they just charge you for the pleasure and would pay wonga less back too - also pointed this out to wonga.

Good luck, and you will find it hard to get through on the phone so I would definitely try e-mailing them as they can set it up by e-mail and then you phone to confirm.

I did the exact same thing as the above poster and I'm pleased to say they just very quickly agreed to a repayment plan of £40 a month, which I can definitely afford. I asked them for the bank details so that I am in control of making the payments and I am just SO relieved.

If anybody is thinking of taking out a PDL, it is SO easy to spiral into this mess, and such a huge waste of money. What a relief to be on the way out.
