My unqualified opinion is that they are often a much of a muchness. The main difference between all manufacturer's models apart from Panasonics is that the liquid is added first and the dry ingredients last, with the Panny it's the opposite.
Try this recipe:
1 1/3 cups (cup is 8 fluid ounces) room-temperature water
1 tbsp vegetable oil
3 1/3 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
2 tsp dried yeast.
Don't allow the salt to go anywhere near the yeast when you put the ingredients in the machine.
Use the "wholemeal" setting.0 -
I'm not exactly an expert at this, as I only received my MR breadmaker on Thursday, but I do have the instructions.
For soft grain loaf, 2lb
1 and a half of water
2 tbs milk powder
2 and a half tbs oil
3 tbs sugar
2 tsp salt
4 cup grain flour
1tsp quick yeast
Use basic setting.
For 2lb granary loaf
1 and half cup water
3tbs milk powder
3 tbs oil
5 tbs soft brown sugar
2 tsp salt
4 cup flour
3/4 tsp yeast
100g vit c tablet (optional)
Use wholemeal setting
Hope one of those is helpful!0 -
Hi sadie - I have a Morphy Richards fastbake. I think as long as you have a normal size pan (i.e. not a compact or something) you can use the recipes from my manual - http://www.morphyrichards.co.uk/Pdf/IB48280.pdf
I tweak the recipies like mad anyway (I never use oil or powdered milk, always add pumpkin seeds, oat bran etc.) and occasionally I get a brick but usually because I haven't added enough water. I'd just use a recipe from another manual, see how it turns out and tweak it a bit.
Hope this helps!I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

Hi sadie,
This manual is for a machine that is very similar to the 48262 which will help with working the machine and the order to add ingredients as well as recipe instructions.
This thread has lots of advice on using a MR bread machine as well as some specific tried and tested recipes for the 48262:
The Morphy Richards BM Club
I'll add your thread to that one later as your query may help others.

A BIG THANKYOU to everyone's answers, that's great, im really looking forward to making my own bread again, and what a difference now, i looked in the supermarkets for flour and my!!
hasnt things come-on in 8 years, ive never seen soo many types
of flours, brilliant. will take a look on the forum for finding out the cheapest prices for flour and yeast now.
Thankyou all again x0 -
Sadie22 you have no idea how long I suffered from bread-maker envy, so to hear that you've had one in the loft pains me so.
The cheapest place I know to get basic plain flour (fine in my b/m) us at Lidl. They also have strong bread flour for about 50% more. Can't think of the exact prices. but cheaper than I've found elsewhere. I found the dried yeast in the Co-op pretty cheap but I haven't done any extensive research. I think I paud 85 pence for 8 sachets there.
One of the pound shops near here had great sacks of 100% wholewheat chapatti flour which I am giving its first go in the machine as I type. *crossed fingers*0 -
Ooh I'd love to hear how that comes out BitterAndTwisted, will you let us know? Sorry for the hijack but if it works it's a :money: !!I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

It came out perfectly well. There was no reason why it shouldn't have really as ail it was is wholewheat flour: nothing taken away and nothing added. I think I might replace some of the wholewheat with plain flour next time as the loaf came out quite dense. This is as wholemeal should be but a tiny bit too dense for my liking.
I wonder if treacle or muscovado instead of boring old granulated might make it more exciting? So many endless possibilities and so little time....0 -
I lost the instructions for my old MR breadmaker a couple of years ago, rang customer services and they very kindly sent me a new set. I freecycled the BM a while ago as it was taking up a lot of space for the amount I used it (and the 'new' set of instructions went with it), but I would definitely buy from that company again, and recommend them to others.0
