Pork Belly Timing?

Hi all,

I have a while piece of pork belly, deboned it's about 700g in weight. I'd like to slow cook it to have as a roast today with gravy, veg etc but I can't find any suitable recipes for this size piece.

I'd like to use this recipe or similar so I wondered if anyone could suggest cooking times and temps for this sized piece?

I know 'Penelope Penguin' cooks pork belly this way as I read on another thread so I'm secrety hoping she might come along and advise of times and temps! :rotfl:

Thanks,

Kevin

hot for the first half hour then turn down, leave it in there for a good few hours. if it's getting done too fast just turn the oven down a little more and put some foil on the top. you can't cook it too long, only not long enough. don't worry too much.

I use the method from here
For 700g I'd reduce the initial time to 2.5 hours. I'll admit I've had a few crackling failures with this (possibly 1 in 5/6) which I've not solved but the flavour is always excellent.

    Thanks for your replies :)

I put the meat in about 20 mins ago at 140C fan and intend on cooking it for 2 hrs followed by a half hour at a higher temp whilst I do the roasties and yorkshires. Would've done it higher at first but didn't see your comment till now! Hope it will be ok, i'm sure it'll be fine :)

    Thanks again.

it'll be fine, just might not have crackling, but will still taste fantastic. crackling is naughty anyway. enjoy.

Just a quick update from me....

The pork was absolutely fantastic!!! Really lovely and tender and so so tasty. Crackling was pretty good after the 2.5hrs but I used my cooks blow torch on it just to quickly crisp it up a bit more and it worked a treat.

Thanks again for your help :)

I hadnt thought of using the blow torch to aid crisping, thank you.
