Best low carb diet book ?

Hi all

I used to have the Charles Clark book, but seemed to lose this book when we moved house. After struggling with WW and SW I'm thinking of trying to cut down carbs again to lose some weight. I lost weight following the Clark book, iirc I got to the stage where I could have a slice of bread which really made the difference to me. I've been following the low carb thread and marvelling how well everyone is doing. I would like to start from scratch, with a book for reference, I need to get into my head how you carb count, sugars etc, rather than just cutting everything out myself, I want to do it safely and in a way that I can sustain.

I would welcome any recommendations and advice from anyone who's following this way of eating. I'm just at the stage I need to do something, I'm fed up being so flipping wobbly !!

Many thanks

Trigger

  • Hello - I'm (loosely) following "The Idiot-Proof Diet" link (although you can get it cheaper second hand here).

I've found it fairly straightforward, plus there's a website https://www.pig2twig.co.uk where you can get related tips, recipes, etc.

  • Thank you Betty. I'd like a book for reference that starts with the basics eg do you count all carbs or just what sugars. Does this book have a programme where you increase the carb intake as you go ? I've had a look on amazon but can't tell.

Would you recommend a particular recipe book or carb counter book as well ?

    Many thanks

This is my reference book as it gives advice on the different low carb diets at the start and then there are sections showing the carb, fibre etc. count for most foods that I eat. There are also suggestions for eating out at the back.
I have one in my handbag and one at home.

Also join us on the low carb thread. I only recently found out about it but it is good to swop ideas, recipes and generally encourage each other.

Hello - well it starts off by giving you a hardcore, very low carb diet for the first couple of weeks (phase 1) - it doesn't count carbs but it tells you what you should shouldn't be having in this time.

Once you've done the first couple of weeks like this, you can choose to go on to the second phase. There is a list of foods which falls into this bracket - again no carb counting as such, but there are more carbs "allowed" in phase 2. There is also a phase 3 which allows carbs such as wholegrain breads etc.

To be honest, although I keep an eye on carb content of food on labels etc (I try to keep to below 5% if I can) I'm not generally counting carbs, just trying to stick to low carb foods (if that makes sense?).

The book is quite "girlie" so it might be worth seeing if you can get it from your local library to have a look through before buying (that's what I did).
