OS Beauty Tips

I figured a lot of people will have some ways of beautifying on the cheap.

What I really want to know is the best treatment for cracked heels and dry skin on the feet. My heels are so sore where they're dry and manky that I have actually got small cuts on my feet.

Any other tips people can share would be great too. I'm wanting to start looking after my skin etc but need to do it on the cheap

  • i can recommend nivea creme and socks, esp in bed, exfoliate/pumice and home pedicure when you get to that stage. wear shoes outside or you feet will naturally harden.

When they have healed a bit you will need to get the dead skin off. If I leave cracked skin it just gets worse and then can cause discomfort. The little ped egg copies are in pound shops for £1 or £2. Do it on dry feet then put vaseline/moisturiser/ideally sudocream on (if you have little ones you'll probably have tons of this lurking).

Actually as you stand now you could put some sudocream on to alleviate the cuts...or vaseline if no sudocrem around.

I'm no expert incidentally, but the above is very cheap and my feet are fine. Someone else might have something more herbal remedy about them (I'm expecting some essential oils type replies which are much more in depth and educated than mine!) but the above works for me.

I know it's not really old style but the product has been around for donkey's years!

My skin has taken a hammering in this weather, doing the horses twice a day and walking the dogs twice per day as well. My lips and face skin are dry.

I had a tub of Astral cream (Nivea is about the same the navy blue tub). I washed my face and slathered on a load of the Astral over my face and put a good daub on my lips - skin is now really rehydrated and lips are no longer dry and tight. Would really recommend this especially in this weather.

If you want to do a cheap facial scrub use oats, make sure your face is wet and then rub the oats into your skin for a nice exfoliation.

    Hi,

I use Aqueous cream which you can buy in Sainsburys/Tesco/Boots, although the supermarket is likely to be cheaper. Look in the medicine aisle. Recently in either Sainsburys or Tesco (I think it was Sainsburys) I bought a 500g tub for about £2.50

I slather it onto my feet at night and then put socks on, works a treat.
  • Another one who recommends vaseline. Slather on feet before bed, pop on some nice fluffy socks, wake up to nice(r) feet. Not the sexiest look in bed mind!! x

But don't get it in those overpriced small amounts in the SM. Go to the chemist and buy a big bottle for a fraction of the cost (also makes fantastic molding icing mixed in with icing sugar and a little lemon juice, water or colouring. So much nicer tasting than shop-bought, so much cheaper, and you can make exactly the right amount)

  • I put this on another thread yesterday, but I've spent far too long at https://www.crunchybetty.com ... you may well have the ingredients in your cupboards already.

Personally, cracked skin means I'm not getting enough good fats - oily fish and the like.

    Hi squidge,

As your thread has dropped down the Old Style board I've moved it over to the Health, Beauty & Fashion MoneySaving, board to see if you can get more replies.

Try pound shops for aqueous cream ;)

I also second the socks, whatever cream you use!
