Does anyone work for Sussex Police?

i am being made redundant & i 'm looking for new jobs, i have seen a really good one with Sussex Police (not Policeman/woman). I have looked thru their website but i can't find any details on their pension scheme or whether they have a childcare voucher scheme, can anyone help?

Thanks

Staff working for Sussex Police other than Police Officers are eligible to join the Local Government Pension Scheme.

Not sure about childcare vouchers though.

The main website of the LGPS is via the link below. Is there anything specific you want to know?

  • Well the scheme i'm in at the moment i have to pay in to & my employer matches it + they give bonuses depending on how much you save. They also do death in service benefit & spouse/dependants pension. I'm just trying to factor in pension benefits into job hunting to see if it works out financially taking a pay cut as i will have to get life insurance etc if the new employers dont provide it.

You pay 6% of your salary, and the pension benefits are based on final salary.

Death in service benefit is twice actual pay, together with spouses benefit and chilfdrens benefit. Childrens pensions are payable for children up to the age of 23 provided they are in full time education. Spouses benefits and childrens benefits do depend on how long you have been a member of the scheme.

The link below takes you to the lgps web site re death in service benefits. click on the hyperlinks to take you to other pages.

There are changes due with effect fron 1st April 2008 but regulation changes are still in draft form and not agreed yet.

    Hope this helps.

I am in a police staff pension not for sussex though - It is in the process of change but is still a good pension - death benefit is x2 salary but think they have agreed to change it to x3 also its final salary scheme at a rate of 1/80 of your final salary per year of service but again think they have agreed to change it to 1/60th.

These changes have come about because they are removing the rule of 85 which saw persons in local government schemes being able to retire early if there age plus the amount of service added up to 85.

In my force they do have the child care vouchers so would assume sussex would be the same - Can I ask what the job is? might be able to give you some pointers - you can PM me if you like.
