Is there any support for relocating?

Had a search on the JobcentrePlus site and was actually amazed compared to our Irish version hell of a lot more opportunities, as I've mentioned before weeks can go by without even applying for 1 job over here as there is damn all anywhere near me, so my only options are A - Hang around and hope something magically appears or B - Move to the mainland. The problem with B is we don't have any assets to sell in order to move, we rent out home etc, I know my Mrs could get transferred easily enough in her current job so that wouldn't be a problem. Any advice?

Some companies will provide relocation assistance, the amount depending on housing circumstances. But a lot of companies won't do this, or only for certain roles. If you can get it then it's tax free up to certain limits. See this HMRC info. But companies are unlikely to offer the full £8000 unless you have to both sell and buy a property. If only buying, or moving rental, it will probably be less.Favours are returned ... Trust is earned

Relocation assistance can be provided but it tends to be a little more in "head hunted" type situations. I have had two occasions when hotels, travel etc were paid for a month or two plus a small cash lump sum to facilitate the speed of redeployment but these are rare and where they do exist at middle management and below tend to be mainly for internal people0

I thought it would be a bit of a dead end but just asked in case I missed something.0

I'm glad to see you've followed up on my suggestion to consider relocation. Is there any possibility that if your wife could get a transfer that might come with some relocation help? I think you're unlikely to get any relocation help from the public purse, but it might be worth discussing with your Jobcentre Advisor whether they could help out with travel expenses if you look for work in another location and need to go to interviews - it was offered as a possibility to me, although I didn't take it up as the interviews I went to paid expenses themselves.0
