Hi travelling down south 12th March 2012 and looking for somewhere to stop for something to eat just off motorway around Gretna Green (PREFERABLY NO SERVICE STATIONS OR TOURISTY PLACES as I find these are normally espensive and food never great). Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks

You planning well ahead!
There are places at the Gretna Gateway and a few local hotels, Solway Lodge, The Chase are both good.
There are also a few hotels in Lockerbie which may be another option or there is Houghton Hall which is just 5mins off the motorway at Carlisle
Google those options and see what you think0 -
Thanks thats great I'll try that.0

If you want a quick fuel-stop and snack, then see my post to Big cammy about places around Carlisle, Tesco/ASDA/Morrisons are all 5 mins from M6 J44 & 43.0

Gretna Hall Hotel has lovely food (we got married there) but I'm not sure what price you're looking for. As someone said above, Lockerbie is good to stop at and there's free parking, a public toilet and a good cafe along the main street.0
