    Oh and if you think UK based firms are bad for employee relations then the US ones are much for hiring and firing.

    Yes there was. I remember it as several people here said that the compauny was probably bluffing when they threatened to sue. The OP got a writ shortly after that! I never heard what happend. I presume they lost the case.

    Yes, good idea. Be sorry to inconvenience them all and so on. Play the game and you'll get what you want. You know, "is it at all possible if I take the 5 days owing me now?" And then when you've got what you wanted you can laugh.
