Last week here in Swansea, we had a bit of snow and our employers phoned all the people who were working that day and said we're not opening. We've now been told that they'll take that day off as a holiday. Can they do that? Thanks.

Short answer. Yes they can.0

The same happened to me 2 years ago, and because I and a collague WERE available and making our way into work (also in a snow storm) our boss phoned us to say don't bother turning up today.
Later our boss had no intention of paying us for that day, so we contacted ACAS in front of her. We were informed as we were 'available' for work, then by some employment right we were entitled to pay
Hope this helps?Love generously, praise loudly, live fully

They would have needed to give two days notice if they wanted to shutdown and expect employees to take the day as holiday.0
