See my note on page 6 of the link barneydog mentions and you will see that I picked one up same day for £162.50

Excellent machine though well worth the cash

Its about time the price dropped on these..

They look ridiculously overpriced compared to the Vestel clones (Digihome, Dual, Evesham, Techwood) and other boxes. These have basically the same components, so the Humax looks at least £50 overpriced ( you would expect a slight premium for the extra features in the firmware - but not double the price).

strange why the Vestel clones are priced so cheap though, almost as if people are avoiding buying them. Like all goods, you pay a premium for reliability, support, functionality. Why is a Sony TV so much more than a Beko, it's only got a tube in it and a plastic box?

And if the Humax is overpriced then the Topfield is really in trouble, but there are good reasons why both have a premium price.

I haven't tried the 9200T, I have an Humax PVR8000T, and a Dual PVR80 from Asda (yet another Vestel clone).

The Humax is much more responsive, eg in timeslip, the Dual machine takes about 10 seconds to pause live tv! I don't know if it's just my eyes, but I think the Humax has a slightly better picture too.

Also you can't record two channels with the Dual machine, unlike the 9200T, you can only watch one and record another. There's software out there that lets you do it (not a manufacturer firmware upgrade, though).

I have a Digihome (DUAL from ASDA at £80) and its a brill product. But this Humax IS incredibly overpriced with its only plus being the fact that you can connect it to a PC/latpop to edit files or watch em there. Apart from that its £90 down the drain.

  • Cheers for the link Barneydog very helpful.

Justin, I did what you did and went to Richer sounds with a Martin Dawes printout showing a collect at store price of £172.50.

They said they would match it but never mentioned the £10 extra off. When they tried to charge me £172.50 I pointed out about the £10 discount. The guy pretended he didn't know about it and pretended to ask another assistant haha....!

Just been playing with it and its the biz!!! Also I can just drop it into the local store if it packs up which I couldn't have done with an on line shop.

Anyway Im very happy with this for....£162.50. Some places are still charging £220+.

    Cheers:beer: :T
