more redundancy

the company who i work for in the last twenty years has had a about 4 seperate redundacies, they have all recieved double redundancy last week six people have been paid off and have been told it is only single redundancy .there is nothing down in black and white that redundancy will be double but if its been done in the past should the union be fighting for that also the company was taken over in dec last year but the same management team is still in place also the people who are going has to have a leaving medical whats that all about ps we are now owened by americans

    The company has no obligation to give anything but the legal minimum, which works out at buttons! Here is the DTI guide, the payments are listed here. Anything above these is a bonus.

    The union can fight for whatever they like but if the company are within the law, they don't have to give in.

    A leaving medical may be to check if it should be an ill health retiral which in some cases means they can claim pension earlier, but it isn't a standard practice, and wouldn't normally be applied to everyone. I'd ask your HR manager that.

    The takeover with same managers in place - I'm not sure how that is relevant to your legal position.
