There's nothing to say that you can't drop them a line anyway - you'd be doing them a favour; that is of course, if you're sure that you'll never want to work there) :)

Maaaaany years ago (and even then, they told me that I would have been old to be a croupier), I was offered a job at the only casino in my nearest city (which is still 17 miles away) - and I couldn't quite get my head around the hours (again, no pay enhancement), I think finishing time would have been 4:00am... and I couldn't figure out when I would sleep/exercise my horse etc etc. Even though I was offered the job (despite being "old" (then 30-something), I declined as there was a two-week training period with no pay or something ridiculous like £100* per week.

*Which nowadays seems to be a lot - see my posts on "work experience" blah blah.
    Or don't.
    :)

I actually went for a different job there a few years ago (kitchen work) so a different role, same company but the bingo section. I called and was told to go to an informal chat so I dressed smart but casual as didn't want to go over board. Again there were about 10 people.

The manager (a different one) again was about 15 min late, he hadn't seen any of our application forms or CV, picked out 4 of us and took us to an office where we were told our appearance didn't fit so we weren't going to be interviewed.

I wrote to the local paper who ran a story on it, I believe the manager got the sack because he was never seen working there again. The best bit is I got a job with the jobcentre and signed him on......I so hoped he recognised me :D

Not sure why I didn't learn from that experience as doesn't seem they have learnt a lot but no I really don't want to work for them.

    I was so angry

I hadn't been told it was an interview, he hadn't even asked my name and I felt it was so utterly wrong to treat people like that.

It had cost me about £5 on the bus too which is a lot when unemployed :D

I remember an occasion I was pleased not to get the job. I was invited for an interview, in an area I was relocating to. After over an hours drive to the interview I realised this wasn't the job for me, I had let the agency convince me that Trowbridge was commutable from Taunton. Doh! (I was young and naive!) The interview was 3 to 1 which was quite overwhelming, the terms were awful and I had picked a charitable organisation that I didn't truly understand or support as much as others. Awkward.

I once had an interview for a civvy admin job at an army base. I had to prove who I was at the gate and got escorted to the interview room. The interview was mostly about the royal family and which one I liked the most and what I thought about Princess Diana of whom the interviewer obviously didn't approve. I'm not a royalist so found it difficult. After the interview he showed me to the door and I had to find my own way out. I wandered round the building for ages totally lost and nobody challenged me. Worrying I thought. I didn't get the job immediately but they called me a couple of months later and said I'd been on the list for employment and did I now want the job.. I didn't!
  • Oh yes!

I had an interview for a health and safety position for a supposed high profile global company that produces a very well known household product.

Surprisingly, the interview was just with the H&S manager with no HR representative, which was fine in some respect as we could discuss elements of the job that may not generally be understood by most HR personnel (not all I hasten to add).

I have to state that he was the most obnoxious and arrogant person I have ever had the misfortune to meet. I am the wrong side of 50 and he actually asked how old I was - which got my back up from the start and the interview went downhill from that point forward.

After about 10 minutes, I realised that this interview was going nowhere and my parting shot was when I questioned the effectiveness of the health and safety management of the factory due to the fact that I was fully aware that a very serious accident occured a few months previous and the company received a very hefty fine.

Thankfully - I was not offered the position!
  • I went for an interview for a commercial assistant/dogsbody many moooons ago after confirming date, time and contact a couple of days beforehand, and someone else turned up for an interview at the same time. The guy said, as the other girl looked younger than me he would interview her first!! Then his business partner (and I use the term loosely) walked in he asked what I was doing there and when I informed him I was here for an interview he didnt know anything about a job vacancy, he went into the interview and a row ensued....... and I got up and walked out.

I then had a phone call asking me to go back for an interview and I took delight in telling him to shove it as if they cannot talk to each other about hiring someone and not being able to pass messages on to each other about appointment times and dates then they arent professional enough for me to work for :D Needless to say, they didnt last long....

Gosh, I went through this around 10 years ago and I remember it like it was yesterday. I was sent an email confirming an interview was to take place over a 3 hour slot and because it was paying £25,000 I thought nothing of it (Jumping throught hoops for £25,000 ok). Two days before the interview the man kept ringing me asking if I was coming and telling me to do research on the company ect, and he even rang me when I was driving down the motorway to check if I was still coming.

When I turned up there was 15 people there and that's when we found out it was a group interview. I excused myself and left after I overheard one of the interviewers talking to another woman in the bathroom saying that the job was for her sister but they had to advertise externally.
It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun
  • One of my worst interviews was also a group interview... of 300 people!! I kid you not.

Got there for 6pm. Spent an hour queuing up to have my photo taken. IMO, if they need a picture of you to remember who you are, that's a sign you're interviewing too many people! The presentation room was too small for all of us so we were separated into groups and herded around like sheep. Another 30 mins wasted waiting around for the first groups to be done... and we hadn't even started the interview process yet!

Once my group was in the presentation room, that was another 30 mins of the guy telling us about the company... all of which I knew because I was smart enough to research them before attending. Another waste of time.

Then he dropped the big bombshell, that our individual interviews were to only be 5 minutes long and we were expecting to wait around till 11pm before we can all leave. Uh no. I left right away after that.

I was so outraged (and still am) at how poorly these people were treating their potential employees. I'd name and shame the company but I'm not sure if that's allowed?
  • Absolutely, went for a senior role at a large consulting firm and the first thing I noticed was the proposed manager giving me the top to bottom dress down look. Couldn't be bothered after that so ended up going self employed so I can at least choose the W****** I do business with. :)
