Our local Lidl (East Lothian) have 200gm packs of bacon medallions on half price offer this weekend. Smoked or unsmoked. Haven't tried these before - any good? Presume they are for grilling.

I have cooked these in my health grill. The remarkable thing was the total absence of any water or fat in the drip tray.

Very nice, though I prefer Hazelmeade Farm back bacon rashers... also from Lidl.
  • I use the smoked medallions a lot - a favourite is to chop them and use them as the basis for lentil soup!

I usually buy up a good few packs when they are on offer and freeze them.
Very good , particularly if you normally cut off the fat and rind from a "normal" bacon rasher .

    Lol!

Saw the thread title and was just going to post my experience when I read your post!

I cooked 4 medallions on my pre-heated George Foreman grill this morning and have just measured the water/fat in the drip tray............as it was practically streaming out!
Got a full soup-spoon full of liquid!

Surprised as I have had this Miltongate bacon before and liked it. This one looked "boiled" and was unsurprisingly dryish tbh.

Were they the smoked or unsmoked? The smoked ones are dry cured, so they shouldn't have too much liquid come out, whereas the unsmoked ones are sweetcured.

Ah, these were unsmoked as I couldn't see any smoked ones. I remember the smoked Miltongate bacon (normal rashes.......only buy medallions for fussy DD) was excellent!

    Thanks!
  • I love these as I never eat the rind or 'tail' of bacon. I like to use them to make our own egg Mcmuffins with a fried egg. Yum.
