Having used payday loans in the past and been stuck with them a while, I too would urge you not to use them if at all possible. I notice that you say credit score could be a problem, so wanted to make you aware that if you go in-store to Cheque Centre (I won't post link, but you can google them - appear to be in most major cities) they don't do a credit check, but will lend on the strength of bank statements showing your salary going in (and obviously the other usual forms of photo id) and do not report to CRAs. They also do loans online, but for that I understand they do carry out a credit check. The last time I used them (July last year) for £1,000 I had to repay approx £1,225 of which £20 or £30 was a set up fee and the rest interest. Expensive, but certainly not on the scale of many other payday lenders.

    is it Saturday already?
    Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.
  • As no one has actually bothered to answer your original question, I will.

Quickquid. Go with them, they are not a con, but yes they are expensive. I have had quite a few loans from them in recent times and never had a problem with them. They charge between £10 and £15 per £50 borrowed. So £600 likely to set you back somewhere between £180 and £220 in interest for the month. Not ideal but will solve your problem. The good thing with them is you can settle early and get a reduction. If you need to speak to them, do it via their online chat, dont call them, its just irritating as they are in US.

They wont clear out your bank account so long as you pay them on time. Do pay them on time and don't renew your loan and you wil be fine.

    Cheers

So to clarify, you are advising the OP to enter the lions den with a PDL Company?

    Yet in this thread:

please help/ start a campaign to get pay day loan companies banned. You only have to read the misery they are causing people on this forum!! THEY ARE SERIOUSLY RUINING LIVES out there.
    Which is it?
You are either in favour of them, or you want them banned.

Seems odd that everyone is telling the OP to avoid them like the plague, apart from the very person who is trying to get a Martin Lewis backed campaign started to ban them all.
  • Thanks for your observant post apples.

Whilst I did originally post that, at the time of posting I was a firm believer in having them all banned. Since then, further research and post by others I have time to reflect to my original rant.

Firstly, I would like all PDL's to be banned on the fact that they cause so much misery to the poor people who use them and rely on them to get by from month to month. However, we all know (and I now do) that that is not going to happen. Secondly, PDL's do have some advantages in the sense that you can have some emergency money in your account in 10 mins if you need it, this is actually a good thing. Thirdly, PDL need more regulation and a capped interest rate. Whether this will happen is also doubtful. However, I did read that PDL are banned in the US, am I right? So maybe a campaign (by Martin) might be a step in the right direction to either have them banned on the basis they are a complete con, or that regulation needs to be applied to this industry. And lastly, I was merely answering the OP's original question based on the fact that I do have substantial experience in dealing with the company I suggested, i have never had any problems with them (apart from the fact they had a lot of money from me!).

I hope that clears up a couple of facts for you apples...

    Cheers

No, PDLs are legal in most US states, they are only illegal in a few (In America legislation is on a state by state basis).

Some states cap interest rates and there are also restrictions regarding US military personnel.
