The link by cheesewright is useful as a guide to working your own figures out, but be careful... for example the depreciation calculator states that a Kia Ceed 3 will depreciate from £17,395 to £6,749 in three years... that is astronomical depreciation... but I can tell you for a fact that no one in their right mind would ever pay £17,395 for that car. In fact they are actually £13,195 brand new... so I have just saved you £4,200 of depreciation right there...

If you are buying a year old for £10k then at the end of year 4 (i.e. three years later) its worth about £6k........ so £4k depreciation over three years = £1,333 a year for a reliable, comfortable car, with warranty so no big repair bills to risk....

Sounds like cheesewright got an amazing deal on his / her Seat - £2k with 50,000 on the clock.... but i'm guessing it must be very old for that money? Ok if it lasts a year its ok, longer than that and its a bonus. If something big goes wrong then you scrap it and buy another... but I can't be bothered with all that working hard, I think I deserve something better when I have very few debts...

(no offence cheesewright, i'm very grateful for your input, just think that there is now single rigth answer for everyone)

I agree there is no single right answer, and the tools that show depreciation are only really a guide , no decision should be based soley on them , but i do think its good to look at all options before making my mind up ... Therefore i am grateful for any help

I did look at seat but they were well over 2k ( roughly 4/5k ) for cars with 60,000 plus miles on the clock u deff got a bargain there cheese ;) hope it lasts a long time time for u :)
