Just don't expect it to perform as well as the more expensive screens that are also now heavily reduced. The Panasonic TH42PX60 is a prime example. I have this screen and can't imagine ever needing any better. It is simply superb. I got it on an insurance job claim when it was still £1600. Using the 5% discount code, free delivery discount code and quidco you can now get it for about £920.

Fair enough though. the Hitachi is £300 cheaper.

    A bargain.

At the risk of starting a "my technology is better than your technology war..."

    LCD's are much lighter
    Plasmas are heavy

If you compare a top quality plasma and LCD side by side - right now - the plasma wins hands down. Give it 2-3 years and the reverse may be true.

Plasmas can adjust their colour quicker than LCD ( although ask me in 5 years time.... plasmas will probably not be in existance in new production ).

It's like buying a PC - there is never a good time to buy one.... there is always a better model available 3 months later.....

    All I would suggest is..

1/ Before you buy - see it yourself
2/ Before you buy visit Richer Sounds ( almost Internet prices - but if anything goes pear shaped you can walk back in and return it. )
Excellent customer service - I had a fault within 10 days of my plasma being delivered. It was replaced same day. :-)
3/ Buy a quality brand... Hitachi, Panasonic etc etc avoid wierd brands you have never heard from.

4/ Make sure the set is "HD READY" - any other phrase is pants.. you will need this to be future proof.

5/ You want as many inputs as possible, HDMI, component, Scart etc
More is better - but HDMI will be essential.

    Good luck
