Today is DMP day

Hey guys

Thanks for putting up with my endless questions and queries over the last couple of day but CCCS paperwork is here and I have now convinced my self that it is the best thing to do.

My main worries are the default on my credit file and the fear that creidtors will hound me and call in DCAs and CCJs. In fact this scares the bejeezus outta me.

The benefits are that it will undoubtedly help me get out of this mess and they have predicted I will be debt free in 2011.

Any final words of wisdom or woe before I put pen to paper.

I love you all!!

Fran

You will get some chasing from companies, but when they phone just say they will be contacted by CCCS and refuse to speak to them. If the phonecalls get too much, check out the harrassment legislation or refuse to answer the security questions

  • Hi Franny
Like you i have bitten the bullet and contacted CCCS. i AM ABSOLUTELY PETRIFIED about people harrassing me for money that i just dont have. I received my welcome pack from CCCS yesterday (my 40th birthday!) and i make the first payment on 1st march.
Does anyone have any advice on what to expect?

    Good luck with your plan!

  • hi guys - well March will be my 3rd DMP payment and its going well. :T You will probably get phonecalls from some creditors for a few weeks but unplug the phone or just dont answer - you dont need to as they will have all the paperwork.

If you do answer tell them in no uncertain terms that you will not be giving them any money other than through the CCCS and this is on thier advice. They will back down. Morgan Stanley and Abbey were the worst for hounding us but we remained polite and firm and they eventually give up as they realised you cant be bullied.

Its sounds harsh but you need to change tack. You need to NOT be ashamed of your debt and accept it is a problem you have but are maoking moves to sort as quickly as possible. This will make you stronger and they will sense that. You also need to accept they will call. Be firm, polite and if they bully or are rude simply say you are not discusiing over the phone and all correspondence from now on should be by letter.

Also be prepared for the people on the phone to say one thing and then send letters about something else. HSBC have been really bad for this, they say one thing and do something else.

CCCS are brilliant and if you get something you dont understand just ring them and they will advise you.

The calls will only last a few weeks and then it will be SO much better. Be strong the hard bit is over x:j

We're in the same boat so let's just go for it. My first payment is also 1st March and then it's all systems go.

I recommend reading around these forums for advice on how to handle creditos if they call. To be honest they call me now and I don't answer them. HSBC is the worst so far, in excess of 20 calls some days, makes me laugh after a while but it's enough to drive ya to drink.

Which of course I cannot afford now I'm with the CCCS, budget won't allow it ever time I despaired.

    best of luck!
for me the best thing was after a few payments getting our statement and seeing how much we had paid of our debts! it;s really motivation and has even encouraged DH to be more careful with the spare money we do have every month.
