Hi all,
Around about a two years ago I took out a short pay day loan from Wonga for around £300.
My debit card registered to pay them back was stolen before the due date of the loan payment.
I phoned them to tell them my card had been stolen and I gave them my new card details.
They totally ignored this and tried to take the payment from my stolen card, they then added charges etc etc and a long battle went on with them where I ended up having to pay them about £150 in fees. All because they didn't listen to me in the first place.
I've just checked my credit report, only to find out that I have a late payment marker against the account!
Anyone know how I go about getting this removed? They are a pain to deal with, last time I called them about the unfair charges the only people I could get through to where a sub contracted company in a call centre. They had no access to anything and didn't have the authority for anything.
Could be fun!
Cheers
Mike

Its amazing how many members on these forums take out payday loans and their card by magic either gets stolen or lost before the payment is due.
There is no chance of removing the default. You'll find your account was more likely in arrears for a month or two after the missed payment, howcome you didn't sort it then ? The default was fairly placed, and you have no chance of removing it Im afraid.
Your debit card is your responsibility to look after and keep safe, not wonga's.
Sorry I couldn't be any help.0 -
Your only avenue is to raise a formal complaint with Wonga.
If they agree with you the course of events which led to the default, they could get it removed.
Having said that, if you already agreed to pay (and have paid), the late fees, it is an admission of guilt.
I can't see it working but raising a complaint costs you nothing apart from a stamp so take a punt.
EDIT: You seem to have quite a history of missing payments through Direct Debits, Credit Cards and a PDL. Remarkable you attract so much bad luck.0 -
Lol another 1 who complained about the charges yet they agreed to them when they took the loan.0

Lost cards do seem to affect some more than others...I guess it's a mystery LOL"We want the finest wines available to humanity, we want them here, and we want them now!"0

Send them a formal complaint, in writing, signed for.
If you get no response for 8 weeks or you don;t like their response, you can take to the FOS.
If you genuinely losty your card, gave them new details and they failed to act on that, I think you have a good case.
Paying charges does not admit guilt, simply prevents further ones. Ask for them back and the default removing and a reasonable sum for the grief.
Do not be afraid to complain to the FOS if you have to, easy, and they are very fair.computerrally wrote: »Hi all,

I don't appreciate some of the replies here.
My wallet was stolen at a music festival from my tent. Someone slashed my tent with a knife while I was sleeping and took my wallet. I have proof of this as I cancelled my card when I realised my wallet was missing I also walked to the nearest Lloyds TSB to withdraw emergency money, which was fun considering I had no ID!
I had to pay the Wonga money as the charges just seemed to go up and up during my dispute with them, I decided to let them get away with it and clear the debt. I was reluctant to do so but was left with no choice. It's the first and last time of using a Pay day loan, should have known better really!
If you've never had your card stolen, then you're very lucky! But I have no sympathy for you people on here if it happens to you!
That is all.
Thanks.0 -

Thanks for your reply!
I've successfully claimed money back from Lloyds and Santander through the Onbudsman so I'll give it a go!
It's the marker against me that concerns me most though.
Thanks again.0 -
To be fair, taking a Payday loan out to attend a gig is hardly a good idea0
