State Pension at age 65 and a half?

I've received my letter telling me of further increases to my state pension age to age 65 now, but my pension start date has now been set at nearly 65 and a half (65 years, 5 months and 29 days).

I thought the new pension age is now at 65 for those born in 1954, so does anyone know how they can put the start day back another 6 months after the 65th birthday?

I'm working, so it isn't a life and death situation, but it is a loss of 6 months pension money (less tax of course:)).
RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

Ok, I found the anwer: they slipped another increase to the state pension age and it will now be 66.

I can't keep up with all of this:D: first my state pension started at age 60; then 64; then 65 and now 66 (or 65 and a half).

I'll wait for the next letter telling me it will put back further.

With over 40 years towards my state pension, it's time to get an accountant to lower my tax bill an claw some of this back, me thinks.;)

Does your estate get more if you 'die in harness'?

I seem to remember hearing, about a year ago, that although the pension start date was continually being put further back to actually qualify for the full state pension in future you will only need to have contributed to the NIC scheme for 30 years.
So leave school at 16 , take a 20 year "gap", then work till 66 and draw full pension.
