Credit report advice - default accounts

Hi all
I was hoping someone could offer me some advice regarding my husband’s credit report and suggest if there is anything we can do in relation to an entry on there from Tesco Bank.
My husband look out a loan with Tesco in early 2004 and by the end of 2004 was in financial difficulty will all his creditors. As a result he joined a debt management programme in the November and an arrangement to repay at a lower amount was agreed.
My husband was under the impression that due to not paying his creditors he was required to default on all his creditor accounts.
Payments were being made through the debt management programme to all his creditors, including Tesco and we never thought anything more other than the amounts were decreasing.
In 2010 my husband received a statement from Tesco stating his balance 12 months ago and stating his balance to date, the balances were identical an it appeared that no payments had been made during the 12 month period. We contacted the debt management programme company and Tesco, and it transpires that in 2006 the debt management programme company consolidated a number of creditor’s accounts and believing that Tesco was included in this they deleted Tesco from their system.
From 2006 to 2010 no payments were made to Tesco and my husband was not contacted for the money. The debt management programme company was not contacted and my husband had not moved so Tesco could not blame the fact he is untraceable.
As a result of this the debt management programme company agreed to make a payment of £2,000 to Tesco as a full and final settlement of the account, approx. £3600 was outstanding at the time.
My husband finished his debt management last year and since then we have been preparing for the time when we would like to purchase a property. It was discovered on my husband’s credit report that Tesco listed the account as settled in 2010 but the account was not listed as defaulted. Therefore if anyone looks at my husband’s credit report they see ‘6’ on the payment history, it also means that this information will stay on his credit report until 2016.
We have written to Tesco stating my husband defaulted in 2004 and therefore we would like his credit report updated to this date, and will therefore remove the Tesco entry from his credit report, however they are refusing to do this. They have stated that they issued a notice of intention to default but when they were due to issue the default notice my husband had arranged a repayment schedule through the debt management programme. They have also stated that when my husband didn’t make payments during 2006 to 2010 that they only listed his credit report as late payment.
Is there any argument or grounds that anyone knows about on how we can appeal this?
My husband has repaid his £25,000 debt and 8 years on we want to move on with our lives but currently we aren’t able to.
Thank you in advance.
