What does your photographer do.

We are still undecided whether to have one or not so we are listing photos we would like.

I would want a couple before in the room getting ready, but what would he do after that and before the next lot, does he just wait around?

Then after the ceremony when we are having drinks I would like couple, but there is only so many you can take at a small drinks reception. We are then walking to the night venue, so unsure what he would do from after the drinks photos until the nighttime, and during the nighttime he surely can't take photos ALL night. I would like some in the sea, with our drinks fountain, our mr and mrs game and thats all I can think of.

I think I might regret not catching the photos I do want if we decided to not have a photographer, but can just see him not doing anything for the most of the time.

Can anyone help with thoughts?

    Hi,

I'll go through what our photographer will do on the day and maybe that will help you with your decision...

In the morning she will go to where OH is getting ready to get some pics of him and the groomsmen getting prepared. Then she will come to where I am getting ready to get pics of me and the girls getting our hair done etc.

Then she will head to the venue and take some pics there of guests arriving and me and dad arriving in the car etc.

Then she will take pics during the ceremony.

After that we will have the drinks reception and formal group shots done with various family members while our guests are enjoying their drinks and having a chat.

Then we cut the cake and she will take pics of that.

After that we have our meal and she will take pics of us all (hopefully) laughing at the speeches.

The she will have a quick break and something to eat while we finish our meal.

Finally she will take pics of our first dance and then about another 3 dances or until she feels she has captured enough of the atmosphere of the evening.

So it will be pretty non stop for our photographer - but we wanted to go for a combination of some formal shots mixed with a documentary style where she will capture all the little moments of the day that we might miss or forget about so that when we get our album we will have a record of the day from start to finish to look back on.

Each to their own though - it depends on what you think you would like. Some photographers offer a half day package so that could be an option.

Good luck with the decision! :)

Then she will take pics during the ceremony.yep could do those, didn't have that down, so thats a good idea. Was not sure if it was allowed

you know I am all for having a photographer for the following reasons -

    a) you have spent months sorting the perfect day and it is nice to have a record of all the little details.
    b) your day will go so fast that you will not remember it all, no matter what you think now.
    c) they should photograph all the details and capture the general ambience of your day, including some lovely guest pictures. It is a nice way for you to 'see' what happened when you can't physically see it all.
    d) No matter how good your mates are they will not be as good as a professionally trained photographer.

There are probably other reasons but I think you will regret not having one if you can afford it. They may even be on hand to take shots of oyur OH kitesurfing....

Megan you're the reason I am considering one :rotfl: we don't need more of oh kitesurfing, he is sponsored so have a house full of him in various mags and leaflets :rotfl:

All our effort is in the evening, completely. And so the photographer will have plenty then, but as I would like some before and a couple during drinks reception, I think he will have nothing to do inbetween.

I love that he is sponsored! Sorry I have made you consider it. I think the reason I am so passionate is because when I got married before I was 21, young and naive! I thought my friend could take the pictures, and to be fair she did take some nice ones. But there were only a few and I never even received half of them. I was always a bit disappointed about that.

Now I am no longer 21 I am not so naive (Phew) and not only am I making the right choice of man but I have learnt my lessons from the first time...

We debated not having one, but as someone else said I wanted to make sure, after planning for so long, that I have photographic evidence for the memories.
I am also lucky enough to have lots of elderly family members still around, so it's important to me that I have photo's of them enjoying our day.

Our photographer is just starting out (Done weddings for about 2 years part time) and is the brother of a work colleague, which means that he isn't charging much. Also, as he is starting out, he's worried mostly about reputation and positive word of mouth so really wants to please!

No you are right to quiz me - I need to be sure. I am pretty sure on a photographer for the evening. We have so much going on then that is so personal to us I want to remember every detail and want the shots if guests having fun. BUT I would like a handful of shots before too, but not sure that part is worth the money.

Ok, so if that is the case, do you know someone who is good witha camera? You could stage some shots they can take during the day? If you just want some 'stills' ie - of flowers/shoes/that kind of thing?

Here is the suggested time line for four hours coverage that a 'tog I contacted gave me:

    12:30 I arrive, bridal preps
13:15 Shots with groom and the boys
13:30 Candids of guests, location and detail shots
    14:00 Ceremony
    14:30 Post-ceremony congratulations, candids
    14:45 Group shots (ideally 6)
15:15 Bride and groom portrait session, inc. mock cake cut
    15:45 Candids (even speeches)
    16:30 Food served, I depart

I am pretty sure you have lots of things that you are making yourselves and I know I want lovely little detail photos of things like that as they are the sort of things that get missed, then you look back at the photos and go 'oh yeah, do you remember that....?' :D

Initially I wasn't bothered about the getting ready shots but then I thought about the fact that my daughter will be almost 13 and she was just a baby at my previous wedding so it would be great to have some pics of the two of us.

Very happily married on 10th April 2013 :D

Initially we decided not to have getting ready shots, although I'm starting to reconsider. If not, our photographer said he would turn up for an hour or so at the hen and stag dos to capture the fancy dress.

If I changed my mind, he would be turning up for the getting ready shots early, then heading to the church about an hour before the wedding to get set up and to capture guests coming into the venue.

After the ceremony, we will be having varous pictures around the venue, he'll also be taking cadndid pictures of the guests and capturing the speeches, cake cutting and a few of the dances at night.
