Moving the goal posts! :(

Hi guys... I'm just wondering if anyone else has come across

My partner and I are buying a house, but sadly we've just been turned down by the mortgage we'd gone for. Although I'm not sure how the provider makes a decision, I guessed it would be due to a low score or some sort of flagged 'missed payment' thing on the credit reports, so I've logged on to my Equifax account and taken a look to see if any thing stood out.

I'm pretty annoyed after looking.

I had a well known catalog a few years back, which I missed a couple of payments back in 2008... one in September, then one in Nov and Dec. After that, I paid every month. It was settled in July 2009, and then I used the account again in Nov 2009 where it was settled (again!!?) in July 2010 and hasn't been used since.

I remember last year being rather excited, as the missed payments wouldn't show up on the report in 2012, just when myself and my partner are about to buy a house together. However, today's report has moved all the dates up by one... so I've missed a payment in Oct 2008, then Dec 2008 and Jan 2009.

Why would the date change, when the two previous records I've done have been the same?

Although I'm sure this isn't the main reason why we haven't been able to get the mortgage that we wanted, I've message them about this anyway.

Has anyone else had this?? Dates change for no reason?

  • May have picked this up wrong .... but is this the indicator for the payment history?

If so, it may be that as there is no recent history on the account, it's showing the last xxx months from when the account was active.....

Why did you think the late payments wouldn't still show in 2012?

  • Doesn't information stay on your credit file for 6 years? So if the missed payments were 2008, they would be on there until 2014.

    That is correct.
  • I was always under the impression that this information only stayed on for 4 years. Also, if it's 6, my last credit report was saying there had been 3 missed payments so I'm not sure where the 3rd one has now gone.

Has anyone else noticed that their details have changed with equifax though?
