Buying Land

Hi I'm looking for a bit of advice, I own a wedding stationery business and one of the extras that a lot of our competition offer is that they will plant a tree for every order made, they do it through one of the carbon neutral companies for £10 a pop. If we where to offer if it would cost in the region of 5K to 7K a year not to worried about that as we get good PR from it. But it got me thinking how much would it be to buy land to plant these trees on ourselves. I have looked and the trees can be bought for a quid a pop so that leaves a lot of money to buy land.
Any Ideas where i would go to find the land or of average price, I don't need planning permission to build anything on it so I assume that will make it a good bit cheaper.

I'd say your best bet is to buy a field or a bit of land in an LFA (Less Favourable Area) i.e. on the side of some hill somewhere or a boggy bit of land somewhere. Only problem you may have is it's very rare to find someone just selling one field... usually it will be a larger block of land or a small holding. In any case you could be looking at £5000+ per acre.. thats even for some !!!!!! land.. and if your doing a decent amount of business you'd easily fill that in a year. also you'd have to buy the trees, plant them, fence the field (Rabbit proof fencing or the little !!!!!!s will destroy the trees (if you plant small ones)) could be just as easy to pay the specialist company to do it for you.. You'd need to really look into this...Live, Love & Laugh A Lot!0

I don't know if tis the same in Ireland but in wales there were grants and Tax advantages for planting land with trees..As for rabbits the fence does not have to be rabbit proof as each tree is planted with a small stake and a plastic tube which creates a rabbit safe envirement. http://www.tubex.com/index.php?page=23
