Tax rebate problems

OK before you give me stick I know I've been an idiot! Basically I've applied for a rebate for tax years ending 2011 and 2012 (I'm now a full time student) and idiot action number 1: I sent the original documents (p60's and p45's and wage slips). Idiot action number 2: I sent all this by a single first class stamp. I have learned what now is clearly common knowledge that the weight would have required more (I thought it only applied to envelope size like an idiot). So basically obviously the tax office aran't going to pay the charge for it to be delivered and idiot action 3: I didn't write a return address on the envelope. Any advice on this matter would be massively appreciated thanks !

Check whether they received it - is the first thing on the list? Refunds can take several weeks. They may not be able to tell you if it's 'in process' because of the volume. But should be able to advise what date of receipt is being worked on.

Contrary to popular opinion relatively few items go AWOL in the post. HMRC aren't usually surcharged for post - because of the volume they receive. And won't decline it if it has a stamp - but is underpaid
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !

1- The originals are what HMRC require. They will not accept copies. You should however have taken copies of all your documents for yourself

2- HMRC will not turn away post that has insufficient postage, or even no postage at all. Whether RM deliver it is another matter.

3- RM do have the authority, in cases of 'lost/missing/unaccepted' post to open it and check for any evidence of who sent the post and return it to them. (I have had this done to me, the post was returned in a special envelope with a letter from RM explaining they were unable to deliver it and opened it to find the address of the original sender) Contrary to popular belief it is NOT an offence to open post that does not belong to you as long as you are not opening it in order to commit a crime/offence using the information contained in the post (i.e. farud/ID theft/blackmail, etc)
[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.
