I agree with Smurfet. I worked out the cost of the bags compared to replacing my vacuum every 18months which has been the case with my previous 3 dysons. Its a no brainer for me to get a reliable machine.
Some people do reuse the bags (although sounds quite a messy job and I have no intention of trying it!). Think I read about it on the old style forum a while back.0 -
It will work out cheaper for me to buy the bags than replace the vacuum every 18 months. My dyson has lasted just under 18 months cost me £279.99  Also you have take into account the miele bags are 6l my dyson only holds just over 2.3l.
I think you can reasonably argue Sale of Goods Act for that, a £280 vacuum - twice the going rate - should be lasting more than 18 months, whatever the token 12 month warranty says.
I've heard of people buying other appliances from Amazon, ringing up when they've broken after 15 months versus 12 month warranty, and without even needing to quote Sale of Goods Amazon have said "yes that's not good enough" and sent out a replacement.
I'm increasingly picky which retailers I buy white goods from ... and gave up on Dyson 10 years ago.
If you get no joy with the supplier, try hassling your credit card company, they are just as liable.0 -
gwapenut you are spot on. My dad recently got money back from Samsung for a very expensive telly that kept going wrong, even after the warranty had expired. Yes he had to fight tooth and nail, but won in the end.
He's also been really impressed with Amazon taking back faulty goods even right at the end of the warranty - not sure about after that time.
Personally I've come to the system of buying relatively cheap vacuum cleaners (£75 in sale) every couple of years and then just binning them/passing them onto family etc. Not very environmentally friendly but I just don't think things are built to last these days. My last one, the belt broke once and then the replacements just broke constantly.
I have pets and my vacuum does get a good workout!Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!0 -

Thanks, but like you I am fed up with Dyson now and wanted to try another manufacturer.
I had been looking for a deal on the Miele upright and this one popped up so went for this as it is a which best buy - delighted with performance of it and the 10 year guarantee is a bonus.0 -
If anyone is near John Lewis Liverpool or Chester, they have loads in stock and will price match Argos. Bring a printout of the Argos website to show the price.
Bags are also £9.99 for 4 which is not bad.
My Miele cylinder is the best vacuum I have ever owned. The upright is just as good and as many have commented, it has won lots of Which best buy awards. First class in my opinion.0 -
Check out also Miele Cat and Dog S7260. Good long term investment.0
