Seeing a financial advisor about pensions - can you get one for free?

i would have thought i would have been worse off as i would have to pay them a fee?
As you will if you go direct to the Std Life or Scot Wid.Can they get better rates or something?
An IFA can beat going direct to provider and gives you greater choice. If you know what you are doing with investments then there are some more advanced options that could be cheaper than an IFA but would require you to keep the investments under review.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Thanks again, will look into getting a financial advisor. Am i best just to go to the unbiased website to find an ifa in my area? thanks0

Personal recommendation is good too, but unbiased if you don't have that.0

Yes, unbiased.co.uk is where effectively all IFAs are listed. Have a word with three or so because it's a people business and different people interact differently. Prices, including commission, also vary. A reasonably typical deal would be something as an initial charge then 0.5% of total investment value each year paid as commission, for which the IFA would be expected to review the investments each year and perhaps make some changes.0
