Hiring out our campervan?

Hello everyone, we had the good fortune to acquire a campervan from my mil and we pay monthly to her. As well as using it ourselves, we are contemplating hiring it out through an agency.
Has anyone had any good experiences of this, have had a look at websites that deal with hiring them out and they make it sound great.
Has anyone rented one out before?
Many thanks
Na

We actually hired one last year and the owner said business had nosedived from the previous year.

They advertised on EBay and had loads of bookings last year but only three for the whole of 2011, none of which were repeat bookings.

I could see why really. It was a modern van, 2008, but though it was an 8 berth it was horribly cramped. 4 of the berths were up ladders and two were the dining table converted.

We had our two dogs with us and the poor things could hardly lie down.

    Never again!

Maybe yours is set out better, you could put an ad on Ebay and see what kind of response you get.

    Good luck.
  • I know it's not quite the same thing but I own a static caravan and have only recently decided to try letting it out. I advertise it on ebay but even though I've had a few enquiries nobody has actually booked it through there. It costs about £15 a month to advertise on there. I have also tried putting adverts on boards in shops (and if I go away to another area I do this as well) and have had 1 booking from that. I also paid a website to advertise it for me and have had 1 booking out of that. It is also on Gumtree and Fridays Ads. But by far the best way to advertise your caravan (or anything else for that matter) is facebook. You can make a facebook page for your van and start adding people. I've had 10 bookings through facebook so far. You can upload photos to it, update your status, tell people about offers and tell people about the attractions they could visit in the area. Eventually people will request you as a friend. When they do make sure you send them a personal message about what you can offer. If someone books your van ask them if they can tag you in some of the holiday photos they take so that it encourages other people to book. Give it a catchy name like 'Scratby Yarmouth Caravan' so it comes up in a search if people are looking for that specific. Ask people to give reviews, send messages to all your customers for free. Its great. I'm not going to bother with all the other methods of advertising next year. Also when someone books your van add some personal touches like some sweets in a bowl, a hamper of toiletries in the bathroom or something.

I would second that - facebook is the way forward
The opposite of what you know...is also true
