Hi there LadyMissA,
Sorry it took us a little while to get back to you, we've been chatting with mse to sort out the right permissions to post here.
You're right that we made a change to the confirmation emails we send to you in November 2011, so this is when you will have started seeing your covering letter as an attachment. We made the same change in the confirmation emails we send to recruiters a year earlier, so they've been receiving covering letters as attachments for a while now.
Thanks for your suggestions, we've got our technical team looking into this and trying to figure out the best solution for the problems you're having.
Unfortunately, to a certain extent some of our emails being marked as spam by email providers is outside of our control, although we do everything we possibly can to ensure that our delivery rates are as high as possible. We also make all of your details, including your CV and covering letter, available in the recruiter's account to give you the best possible chance with all your job applications.“Official Company Representative
I am the official company representative of Reed.co.uk. MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues. You can see my name on the companies with permission to post list. I am not allowed to tout for business at all. If you believe I am please report it to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com This does NOT imply any form of approval of my company or its products by MSE"0 -
Another minor annoyance with Reed saying the rep is floating about. When I type in my town if you have no jobs within the 20 mile radius filling space with rubbish from the Army or UK wide Natwest jobs does not help, since when was Natwest in Northern Ireland? Since when was that within the 20 mile radius?0

Another thing is when applying for jobs and you need to 'tick' boxes connected to qualifications, experience etc, saying 'yes' or 'no' to them.
Example: I often "don't meet" criteria because they are too specific e.g. Do you have an NVQ Level 3 in Childcare? - No, I don't but I have qualifications related to/on par with Childcare, which are equivalent/above NVQ Level 3.
- Just because it is not an NVQ, doesn't make it any less valid. However, as I click 'No' and apply anyways, it states that because I don't meet all the criteria, employers might still look at my application and be considered. Hmm...0 -
Another issue for Reed Representative.
Often the same job advert appears upto 3 times consecutively when I search from my own town. Each one will have different numbers of applicants already applied. I expect with this many people will apply for the same job 3 times when you only have the one vacancy. This happens with many of the vacancies on the website
This issue also needs looking at.0 -

Best to apply for all versions as you have no idea any will be received by the recruiter.0 -

I've had this too. Says nationwide and then turns out to be in the outer Hebrides.
Also same as Patchi, some of the questions are a bit pointless and mean that you don't get considered for the job even though you can do it.
Also for the Reed representative, can anyone just post a vacancy on the site? I ask because on my searches I have come across ones which really don't seem to be quite the ticket and have done a search before to find that a role was indeed a scam.0 -
Hi everyone,
Thanks for all the feedback, it's really good to know what you're finding frustrating about using reed.co.uk. We're going to do our best to sort out these issues for you.
@Falko89 - We let recruiters post these 'nationwide' jobs if they have recruitment ongoing throughout the UK, but I completely understand your point about the jobs not being relevant to you in Northern Ireland. I'm afraid there's not a quick fix for this one, but we'll have a think about it, and see if there's anything we can put in place to make it easier for you. In the meantime, if you want to exclude a specific company, say Natwest, you can do this by typing the company name in the 'Exclude words' field on the left hand side of the search results page.
@Patchi - When a recruiter posts a job, they can specify whatever screening questions they like. We do encourage them to put 'or equivalent' if they're asking about a specific qualification, but unfortunately we can't enforce this. My advice would be that if you have an equivalent qualification, answer yes to the question, and explain in your covering letter the equivalent qualification that you have.
@CCFC_80 - This is another one which unfortunately doesn't have a quick fix, but we're aware that it's an issue and are looking into a solution now.
@Magenta - We carry out various checks before allowing recruiters to post jobs on our site. However, if you see a job you're suspicious about, you can let our customer support team know by clicking on 'report this job' at the bottom of any job details page.
Thanks again for all the feedback, we really do appreciate hearing your thoughts on the site.“Official Company Representative

This is how it is. It's just one big con job. They scam you into sending in your cv so they can spam employers with it, they scam their own staff into thinking they're doing something important when really they're just paid to spam potential employers and desperate people looking for work. I mean what's the point in going to the trouble of writing up a nice cover letter that ticks all the boxes if the whole thing gets sent straight to an employer's junk mail folder?0

Bit flippin pointless though, isn't it? A recruitment site where most of the applications go straight to the spam folder.
Sounds like there should be a vacancy at Reed IT central anytime soon...If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0
