Job Applications

Just a quick question, does it look really bad if I reuse my last application text for a different job but with the same company?

Just that my application text is very detailed and did land me a interview but they felt I wasn't suitable for that specific role but they told me to apply for this different one.

I guess I am just being lazy but it took me ages to fill out the first application form (the section where you have to write why you feel you are suitable).

Feedback much appreciated.
Thanks!

  • It depends if they kept your cv on file.

If it were me I would alter the text a little, maybe add a little so that it is more specific to the job you are applying for now.

Thanks, the job itself is very similar to the previous one I applied for but more of a level below... it's an IT job so its just me waffling about what I can do!

And it's application form based as they refuse CV's so not sure if it's company policy to keep those or not?

If the job spec is the same basically then use the same text. If it is a lower level however I would suspect it isnt identical and therefore your text can be made more relevant - making assumptions I would guess the senior job required more "managerial" skills and less technical and the more junior role is the reverse, as such your text should be tailored to reflect that, if you wont have line management responsibility any more there is little point using up too many words talking about all your experience of matrix management or being a team leader for a multi-discipline team etc.

Thanks guys, I thought that would be the case so will alter the text to be on the safe side.

Just me being lazy.... I've gotten to a point where I've applied for so many that I'm losing hope!
  • Good luck. I'm also job hunting at the mo, just had another rejection (well it's only my second one but it does knock your confidence).

Thanks Louise, and all the best of luck with your jobhunting too. It does knock you a bit, but as the saying goes, what won't kill you will only make you stronger!

    Good luck!
