Andrex loo paper!

Just bought a 9-roll pack of plain white Andrex... Thought there was something amiss and retrieved the cardboard centre of the last roll and found the new roll to be 5mm narrower!! The new multi-pack was not 'on offer', so what is going on? I know sometimes the cardboard roll is wider in diameter when there are so called 'offers', but this is a new one..... Hoping people won't notice Andrex? What a con!

PS. I know this is not food or groceries, but didn't know where else to post it apart from Twitter....

Hopefully it's not for all packs, just the ones on offer.
I found that with loo and kitchen roll offers, they sometimes make special packs that are smaller than the ones on offer.
Once they had the smaller pack on offer in a separate shelf, and it was smaller than the one in the usual place, a full price. It was either Andrex or Velvet.

Right now they have Thirst pocket "special edition" on offer, and the pack is small than the standard ones.
probably they can get away with it because the price is normally broken down per roll, so as long as they have the same number of rolls you have to look closely to see the difference.
I still have not found an easy way to compare prices for loo/kitchen rolls :(

I buy Sainsburys basic facial tissues, two out of the 4 boxes I last bought have been shorter in length by 1", I reported this to Sainsburys and they are 'looking into' this.Don't know if they already knew this or whether they are seriously confronting their supplier. Will wait and see what transpires.

This type of item, priced by units that are not fixed (like ml or gr) are really difficult to compare and assess offers.
Price for 1l of milk or 1kg potatoes stays the same no matter what size the bag/carton is.
With single units, rolls etc they can make them smaller and still show the same price per unit.
    So annoying.
  • I always check the price per 100 sheets as the rolls are always changing. Went to get some Andrex( I think) once, thinking they were a bargain as usually 240/220 sheets.Luckily I checked the special packs and noticed they were only 160 sheets per roll! loads of people were buying them. Recently bought Nicky rolls from Farm Foods - but they don't tell you the number of sheets just the total length.
  • On the same subject but I don't want to start a new thread. BOLD have recently decreased the size of their washing powders and liquids, the boxes have stayed the same size so most people won't notice but the 42 wash packs have decreased to 38 washes and the 25 wash gel liquids have decreased to 24 washes, as per usual the prices have stayed the same!!!

I've tried Nicky, but without going into TMI, I have to use twice as much as Velvet, and the rolls are very light so I'm not sure how much cheaper it actually is.

It's correct that the information is on the packs.
I shop online, or use mysupermarket to compare prices, so I'm a bit stuck when trying to compare offers in different stores.

Nicky do 2 ply and 3 ply toilet rolls.

The 2 ply is thin and weak but the 3 ply is excellent, so worth checking which one you bought ;)

    2 ply in fact :)
I was wondering how some many MSErs could recommend such crxp product (pardon the pun :D), as advice on the board, particularly where there is a consensus, is generally very reliable.
