Bought the wrong dishwasher tablets?

I have bought the Finish powerball dishwasher tablets (2 boxes) however when I got them I realised I need to use the salt and rinse aid which I don't have as I normally buy the tablets that have this included. Does anybody know if I can use an alternative for the dishwasher salt or the rinse aid or if they are even necessary?

Can't you take them back to where you bought them and change them for the ones you want?

You can use white/distilled vinegar instead of rinse aid.

  • Mae I don't think using them once will make much difference...I'd be tempted to give the store a ring and explain the situation ,I'm sure they would change them for you even though one has been used.

Even if you normally bu the tablets with salt 'action', you still need to use granular salt in the salt reservoir. The ones with salt do not replenish the xeolite in the softener. Even if you live in a soft water area, adding salt to the reservoir won't hurt, because it works on an ion exchange basis and only uses the salt it needs to soften the water.

As others have said, white vinegar can be used as a rinse aid. You can also use a mixture of bicarbonate of soda and borax instead of your usual tablet or powder. Better for the environment too!
