Tax

Options
My husband has been over paid £24,000 by his fire brigade pension, (his fault he was overpaid). Last year we had to agree to pay back £200 a month, otherwise they were going to take us to court. My question is; he obviously paid tax on that over payment and now he is paying it back how does he get his tax back he originally paid on it as this seems unfair he has to pay it back and not get the tax back.
Also he is 68 and registered disabled, he gets a fire brigade pension and a government pension totalling about £16460.00 per year his tax code on his P60 last year says 342P is this right?
Thanks for any advice given
Helen
