Getting grey clothes back to white

I'm hoping some of you clever people will have some good tips for turning white tops which have gone grey back to white. I've tried all the whitening sachets and vanish but they don't seem to work that well for me. Any tips?

  • I use bleach.

I meant to add a good glug in a load of whites - NO washing powder/liquid or you will wash the floor as well.
    Put the kettle on. ;)
  • soaking for several hours in napisan, works on pretty much everything

  • Thanks guys. So when you say bleach, do you mean thin bleach or thick bleach? And do you put it in the drawer? Will give Napisan a go too? Can you use it in a machine?

  • Try soaking overnight in MIlton Fluid solution (or the own brand equivilent) - its very effective and doesn't leave an after smell :)

I find the way to keep the kids school shirts, my shirts etc white is to never ever wash them on hotter than 40. I know this doesn't help right now but the minute you start washing on anything higher they go grey.

I put greying white cottons out on the line overnight when it's frosty - used to bring the terry nappies up a treat!
