2nd interview tips

I've got a 2nd interview for a scientific job soon. Has anyone got any tips they can give me? My 1st interview went well, I did a presentation, had a small amount of technical interview and then a decent amount of personal questions. The 2nd interview is at a different site. Are they likely to give me tests/exams etc...? I've never had a job where I've gone through multiple interviews before!!

  • I am in the same position as yourself - got two job opportunities on the go - both have four interviews each.

After the second interview, the interviewer said that interview 3 and 4 would be much the same as 2, but that it would be more of a grilling and more in-depth.

Sorry I can't be more help.

The great selection process for my team are:

    1) General Interview
    2) HR "compentancy" interview
    3) 2nd general interview - going over points raised in the first general interview
    4) "Written test"
    5) Discussion over written test
    6) Meeting with MD

Most of the time they are rolled up so you do 1 and 2 after each other. Then 3 and 4 at the next sitting and finally 5 and 6 are sometimes done after each other sometimes arent.

I am surprised that the company havent set your expectations of what the interview is going to be about. 2nd interviews can be either a chance for them to drill down on some points/ get someone elses opinion etc or can be to cover a totally different topic

Ack, it isnt too bad really....

    1 & 3 are about 1.5 hours
    2 & 6 are about 0.5 hours
    4 & 5 are about 1 hour

This is for a senior role in my team, for a junior role the last 3 stages generally are much lighter - can be just a do a high level analysis of a situation and talk through a standard project org chart rather than a senior role where a draft terms of reference would be expected (and subsequently challenged on almost every point)

My first interview was 4 hours long in total! I guess its just different ways of doing things. With regards to the original question, is there anything specific I should be doing or thinking about at the latter stages of the interview process?

I would recommend thinking about the questions you were asked in the first interview, your answers and any areas of contention/ where you didnt answer too well.... also need to decide if you feel you should "defend" your answer if it is non-standard or if you decide to expand into other areas recognising there are other options and / or that X would be better than your original answer now you have had more time to consider.

Other than that there is the standard behaviours/ compentancy ones based ones of "give an example when...."
