You can just replace the box, but you'll not be able to get the full Sky+ features. As said, some work needs to be done.
A new twin/quad-LNB needs to be installed on the dish, then a 2nd cable installed down to the box, so you have 2 inputs. That allows you to record 2 programmes at the same time, or record one and watch another channel. Also your viewing card needs marrying up with the new box and Sky+ enabled on your account. Normally the engineer just phones up Sky for that.
In the past Sky retentions dept have been able to offer Sky+ (refurb) for £49 and free installation to existing customers who have complained and considered cancelling. Sometimes they try to force multi-room on you, but not always. In our case they couldn't as our standard box stopped working, was out of warranty and we were not happy about paying for a callout.0 -
Thanks for this.........I rang back the cancellations dept and said I was offered a box when I rang last time and was put through to sales, they then tried to charge me £100 + £60 inst......he then said the box was £100 what would I like to do ...so I said cancel then....then he offered a new box with free inst for £50........so I took it....
only trouble is my cable runs under the floor of the house can't see him climbing under there..0 -

If you can access it and that's where you want the new cable run, then you could lay the cable yourself. That's what I did.0 -

So can the engineer set up the Sky+ and leave enough cable for me to connect later.........there is enough room for me to crawl underneath the floor, but I dont expect the engineer to do that...0 -
When our Sky+ box broke, they wanted to charge us £100 plus £60 install. That would be just for plugging it in and ringing Sky to match up the box and card. Fortunately, we got a free box on the Comet offer and were happy to pay the £60 install. It all seems to depend what offers they are doing or how desperate they are when you ring up. We have been customers for 13 years - they are only interested in new subscribers.0
