This was on the special occasions board, can any one on OS help?
Can you help me help another MSE'er?
Firstly, thanks for stopping by, I'd appreciate any and all help on this subject :-)
There's a lovely young lady on the forum who's getting married in June. She's already got a wedding dress but the top doesn't fit her and can't be altered. Now I have a spare gown and would be prepared to donate it BUT it will need altering to fit this particular young lady and this is where we've hit a brick wall.
She can't put the wedding off because her mum is ill (she brought the wedding forward to make sure her mum was there) but she also can't afford a fortune to pay out for alterations. I'm useless at sewing and this girl doesn't know of anyone who could do alterations. She lives in London and I'm in West Yorkshire so even though I'm very close to Linda at Number 9 in terms of address, that's not really any good for the girl in London.
Also, she's facing an operation which means that the dress may need altering closer to the day but I get the impression that this sweet young lass really likes my dress and doesn't want to let it go. I cannot afford to pay for the alterations as a gift (I'm too sick to work and my OH is only working part time due to a recent diagnosis of ME so money's tight for us too) but we've had to bring our wedding forward to make sure our ill fathers can see us tie the knot and this girl's story just tugs at my heart strings. I want her to have the dress too.
The reason I'm posting on here is to ask if there's anyone who's good enough with a sewing machine or is kind of experienced with dress alterations that could help me and the other poster (Part Mouse) get this dress to fit. I would put it in the weddings part but I think this part gets more hits. London would be a great help but obviously anyone anywhere who can give us advice is handy.
The dress may need letting out but it most definately needs changing from a zip up to a lace up. The dress will fit her everywhere EXCEPT for her boob area. She's rather large chested and I think she's having the same problem with every dress she finds. It's so sad that just because someone is well endowed they can't have the dress of their dreams. x x
I thank you all in anticipation x x x

I thought sewers too :rotfl:
Needlewomen?
Seamstress?
Tailor?
Sewing Expert?
Dressmaker?
Clothing Alterations?
Check out your local dry cleaners, they used to have people who could alter clothing.
Here's a link of sewing techniques for the most common clothing alterations
Even if you don't want to tackle it yourself, maybe someone else reading the post may benefit from the link.
Also, you could google clothing alterations there is a directory of companies who may be useful.0
